A Letter to Sharon

Instilling the importance of people, not things, is a lesson for all year long… but this Christmas, I want the little people to understand that the people in their lives are a gift, the kind of gift that shapes who they become and colors their world.

Sharon, you are a gift and a treasure to all of us. We don’t get to see you often, but we think of you each and every day. I hope you can feel that love from across the miles.

To my Godmother
by Gavin

I has been a long time since I last saw you, but I think about you all the time. Whenever I hear someone with a Southern accent, I think of you. I like the way you say, “Ya’ll.”

I like that you always give me a big hug when you see me, and tell me how much you love me.

Going to the mailbox when it gets close to a holiday is always fun, I know I’ll get a card from you. I like getting mail.

The last time I was at your house, I was really small. But my mom still talks about your Coca-Cola cake. I’d really like to try it sometime, it sounds like it’s right up my alley.

Because we can't see each other that much, I thought I'd tell you some things about me:
I’m really good at baseball, my favorite part about baseball is playing catcher. I like being involved in all of the plays, especially when the batter pops a ball up and I can catch it. We won our league tournament this year; that was great. Tournaments are the best.

Wrestling season started a couple of weeks ago. This is my second year out for that sport. Its hard work, but I think I’m getting better. The first tournament of the season is on Saturday, I'll let you know how it goes.

What was your favorite part of school? Mine is social studies. I like it because we are learning about explorers like Ferdinand Magellan. My best friend’s explorer is Prince Henry the Navigator. (He didn’t explore much.)

Speaking of school, they could use your cooking skills.

My mom told me that my middle name is Bernard, because I’m named after your dad. I’ve never met him, but I've heard a lot about him. I’m sure he was a nice guy. It’s an honor to be named after him.

Someday I’d like to come and visit you again.

Hope to see ya’ll soon!
I love you!
Gavin
